Air-Conductor Boundary
 Application of Gauss's Law
Objective:
To determine the relationship between electric field and surface charge density at an air-conductor boundary. This will be used to determine the capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor on the next page.
Steps:

With an air-conductor boundary there will be free charge at the boundary (when current flows).

We can apply Gauss's Law to the boundary and determine the relationship between the normal component of electric field and the surface current density.
