PARs Personal Academic Record

PAR stands for ‘Personal and Academic Record', produced in the form of a personal working document for you, and built on the values of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; to provide academic support and guidance for all of its students. The system is designed to encourage you to engage in a process of reflection and self-evaluation, which should go well beyond your study here. The PAR process is similar in each year of your course but every year is equally important, as gradually being built upon is your professional and personal development. As you learn, pass exams and develop new skills, your PAR grows and hopefully so will you! It will also provide a record of regular, helpful, one-to-one meetings with your personal tutor to receive academic feedback and review your academic progress, reflect on your learning, your Curriculum Vitae (CV) and your development of transferable skills in terms of building on your strengths and identifying areas of weakness that need improving (see notes on ‘Your Tutor's Role').

The PAR is primarily ‘developmental' in that it is concerned with enabling students to develop their capacities and talents. It does, however, have judgmental elements, as these will form a necessary part of your development.

Although the School and its staff are here to assist you the PAR, and its effectiveness and maintenance, is your responsibility. You are responsible for focusing on your own learning and it is therefore up to you to take full advantage of the self-development opportunities available (see notes on ‘Your Role' in the PARs guidebook).
