Undergraduate Scholarship Information for Current Students

2009/10 Entry - for students commencing their studies in September 2009

International Students

International students are entitled to a £2500 scholarship. All international students registered on an engineering undergraduate honours degree programme, and commencing studies in 2009 are eligible for this scholarship.

In the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years, the £2,500 award will be conditional on a student passing the previous year with an overall average of more than 40% and having satisfactory attendance during the previous year as determined by the Head of Department.


Students transferring from engineering degree programmes at The University of Nottingham, Malaysia and The University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China are also entitled to the award. International students who qualify for both the Top Class Performance Scholarship and the International Scholarship are entitled to claim both awards (£2,500 + £1,000). The scholarship will be paid as a cheque at the start of the Spring term.

Notes on eligibility
• For deferring students and direct entry students, the award will start in the year in which the student registers on the undergraduate degree within the Faculty of Engineering* (UK).
• Students registering on degree programmes jointly offered by Faculties outside Engineering are not eligible.
• International students transferring from universities in which fee levels are set by inter-university agreements are not eligible for the award.
• Only available to students who commence their studies in 2009.

Home/EU Students

In recognition of academic excellence, a one-off payment of £1,000 will be awarded to all students starting an undergraduate honours degree programme within The Faculty of Engineering in 2009 who have: A level grades of AAA or AAB (equivalent performance in alternative qualifications such as IB or BTEC will also be considered) or Transferred from The University of Nottingham's Foundation Year Programme with an overall average of more than 70%.

The scholarship will be paid as a cheque at the start of the Spring term.

Notes on eligibility
• Based on the three A levels in your offer from UCAS.
• Applies to students registered on an undergraduate honours degree programme within the Faculty of Engineering* (UK).
• The scholarship is awarded for the first year that the student is registered on any honours undergraduate degree within the Faculty of Engineering*. This includes second year direct entry students.
• Only available to students who commence their studies in 2009.

* Engineering departments offering these scholarships include:
- Chemical and Environmental
- Civil
- Electrical and Electronic
- Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing

Top Class Performance Scholarships - For all undergraduate students commencing their studies in 2009
Worth up to £3,000 over three years, this prestigious award will be made to the top performing students who registered on undergraduate honours degree programmes within the Faculty of Engineering* in 2009.
£1,000 will be awarded to the top 100 first year students progressing to the second year. The award will be payable by cheque at the beginning of the second year.
£1000 will be awarded to the top 100 second year students progressing to the third year. The award will be payable by cheque at the beginning of the third year.
£1000 will be awarded to the top 50 third year students progressing to the fourth year. The award will be payable by cheque at the beginning of the fourth year.
Notes on eligibility
• The 'top performing students' are determined by The Faculty of Engineering Management Board.
• Applies to all students registered on an undergraduate honours degree programme within the Faculty of Engineering* (UK); it does not apply to students on joint degree programmes with other faculties.

2008/09 Entry- for first year and direct entry students starting their course in September 2008

International students are entitled to a £2000 scholarship. This award is unconditional in the first year of study, and is awarded conditionally upon satisfactory attendance in the remaining years of study.

Home/EU students who entered University with A2 level (or equivalent) grades of AAA and AAB are entitled to the First Class Scholarship which is awarded as follows:

Year 1 - £1500

Year 2 - £1000 if an overall average of 70% or above is achieved in the first year

Year 3 - £500 if an overall average of 70% or above is achieved in the second year

Year 4 - £500 if an overall average of 70% or above is achieved in the third year

2007/08 Entry- for first year and direct entry students who started their course in September 2007

International students are entitled to a £1650 scholarship. This award is unconditional in the first year of study, and is awarded conditionally upon satisfactory attendance in the remaining years of study.

Home/EU students who entered University with A2 level (or equivalent) grades of AAA and AAB are entitled to the First Class Scholarship as follows:

Year 2 - £1000 if an overall average of 70% or above is achieved in the first year

Year 3 - £500 if an overall average of 70% or above is achieved in the second year

Year 4 - £500 if an overall average of 70% or above is achieved in the third year

Please note that transfer students from The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus and Thammasat have special arrangements for scholarship awards.

All scholarships are paid by cheque at the end of January to students who have paid at least the first installment of their tuition fees. Students will be contacted by email when scholarship cheques are available for collection.
